True Crime Documentary I’ll Be Gone in the Dark Returns For One-Hour Special

True crime documentary I’ll Be Gone in the Dark returns this June for a special episode. Based on the best-selling book of the same name, it follows writer Michelle McNamara’s investigation of the Golden State Killer who terrorized California in the 1970s and 1980s.

McNamara’s relentless quest to find justice on behalf of the victims helped keep the case alive all these years. But before she could witness the impact of her impassioned search for truth, she passed away in 2016. Four years later, former police officer Joseph James DeAngelo received a life imprisonment sentence for his horrendous crimes.

In the new I’ll Be Gone in the Dark episode, another case is uncovered – the rape and murder of Kathy Lombardo in 1984 in Oak Park, Illinois. This one-hour special delves into the case using the late McNamara’s own research and voice recordings, as well as present-day interviews with residents of Oak Park.

How to watch I’ll Be Gone in the Dark Special Episode in Australia?

The new I’ll Be Gone in the Dark one-hour special premieres in Australia on June 22 on BINGE. The original six-part series, which premiered in August 2020, is also available for streaming on BINGE

Foxtel Announces New Original Aussie Drama ‘The Twelve’ to Air in 2021

Foxtel continues its commitment to producing more local content with the announcement of their new original drama series, The Twelve. This series will be produced in partnership with Warner Bros. International Television Australia and Spirit Pictures.

Slated for production in 2021, The Twelve tells the story of 12 ordinary people who are selected for jury duty in a murder trial involving a woman accused of killing a child. Stories will be told through the multiple lenses of the jurors, each of whom has their own history and story to tell behind the facade of their anonymity.

This series will show how the jurors’ lives are as complex as the trial itself — with fractured dreams, shameful secrets, hopes, fears, personal trauma, and prejudice. Not only will viewers see the inside life of these jurors, but also the fragility and imbalances of the law and the flawed way in which society attempts to determine justice.

In an interview, Foxtel’s Executive Director of Television Brian Walsh stated that “In one of the most challenging of times for our industry there has never been a more important moment to consolidate our energies, talent and passion, and reaffirm our commitment to local drama. We have been looking for the ideal vehicle to replace our popular series, Wentworth, and we have every confidence that The Twelve will continue the tradition of bringing gripping Australian drama to the screen.

The Twelve will deliver a unique take on the crime genre by seeing the story from the jurors’ perspectives. “It is a bold and fresh approach to the classic murder mystery story and will boast a big ensemble cast and an equally impressive team of writers and creatives,” Walsh added.

This series will consist of 10 1-hour episodes and mostly based on the Belgian series of the same name. The Twelve will join an already impressive slate of original Australian dramas produced by Foxtel, which include Wentworth, A Place to Call Home, Upright, Lambs of God, and the upcoming series, The End.
