Watch AFL Live

As one of Australia’s major sporting events, AFL easily garners millions of spectators during every round and ultimately up to its highly anticipated Grand Final. With the 2022 AFL season fast approaching, it’s good to know that there are several ways to stream AFL matches live in Australia across free-to-air and streaming TV.

What’s in this Guide?

AFL Live Stream in Australia

Melbourne took the coveted Toyota AFL Premiership title in last year’s season, securing their first Grand Final win in over 50 years. With such a feat, they’re entering the 2022 Australian Football League season as favourites alongside strong contenders Geelong, Port Adelaide, West Coast and Western Bulldogs. As the new season kick starts in March, footy fans are also expecting more from the likes of Brisbane, Essendon and Richmond Tigers.

If you’re a big footy fan and looking for ways to watch AFL, live stream the sport, and save on streaming costs, there are ways you can stream AFL matches at lower fees, which we’ll elaborate in this guide. Streaming services like Foxtel Now and Kayo Sports even offer free trials that’ll allow you to access their live coverage of sports for free for a specific period of time.

How to watch AFL in Australia?

Every round of AFL, including the Finals and Grand Final, will be available to stream live and on demand via several streaming services in the country. For footy fans living or travelling abroad, you don’t have to miss any footy action as there are options available for streaming AFL outside Australia as well.

Stream AFL on Kayo

To access AFL live stream free, Kayo Sports offers a 14-day free trial to new customers. This is a great option for sports fans who want to access every Foxtel channel, including Fox Footy. As the sports season starts in Australia, it only makes sense to subscribe for a service dedicated to covering dozens of sporting events, which you can stream live or on demand. Kayo Sports offers two subscription options, both available free for the first 14 days. After the free trial ends, Kayo is only $25/month for Basic and $35/month for Premium, no lock-in contract.

Stream AFL via Kayo from Telstra

To watch the 2022 Toyota AFL premiership while saving on Kayo fees, Telstra customers have the option to get Kayo via their Telstra accounts. By doing so, the monthly fee for the Basic plan becomes only $15/month and Premium for only $25/month, saving you as much as $120 for a year.

Watch AFL on Foxtel

If you’re already a Foxtel customer with access to the Sports HD plan, AFL streaming is already a given. Foxtel’s Sports HD bundle includes Fox Sports channels, and of course, the Fox Footy channel, which you can also watch in high definition. Unlike Kayo, Foxtel doesn’t offer free trials but the pay TV provider often provides huge discounts on all bundles, including Sports, for up to a year.

Stream AFL on Foxtel Now

You can also access most of Foxtel’s programming through its standalone streaming service, Foxtel Now. Sports channels are part of Foxtel Now’s premium add-on channel pack, Sport. It’s available for an additional $29 per month, on top of the base Essentials pack at $25 per month. Depending on current deals, Foxtel Now also offers discounts that’ll save customers monthly plan fees for up to 3 months. Another option would be to sign up and take advantage of the 10-day free trial, which is available all-year round.

Stream AFL via Foxtel Now from Telstra

Another benefit from being a Telstra customer is gaining access to all of Foxtel Now’s channel packs, including Sport, free for the first month. With this offer, you can get a free AFL live stream access at no costs during the first 30 days. If you’re already a Telstra customer and planning to sign up for a Foxtel Now plan, you can do it via Telstra to be eligible for the free offer. There won’t be any difference in terms of content as you’ll get the same Foxtel Now service, just that your first month is free when you do it through Telstra.

Watch AFL on Channel 7

Free-to-air is another way for watching AFL in Australia with the Seven Network as its free-to-air provider. There’s a minimum of three matches per week that footy fans can watch live on free-to-air television with broadcast on Channel 7 and 7HD. AFL streaming, however, is not available on Seven’s catch up service 7plus since Foxtel and Kayo have exclusive streaming broadcast rights.

How to watch AFL match replays on demand?

Streaming AFL live doesn’t always come easy with work and family to prioritise. Fortunately, there are ways you can watch AFL game replays on demand with services like Kayo and Foxtel Now. Streaming replays even come with a couple of features when you use sporting apps like Kayo.

For instance, the ‘No Spoilers’ feature comes in handy to ensure that you don’t see the results before you’ve seen a match on your own suitable time. An AFL Live Pass also allows customers to watch replays on demand. All you need is an eligible Telstra mobile plan to get an AFL Live Pass. If you’re outside Australia, you can watch AFL live streams, as well as match replays via the Watch AFL app. You can also head on to the official AFL website for other AFL news and announcements.

Watch the 2022 AFL season free

Getting access to every match of AFL this season doesn’t need to be costly. There are cheaper alternatives that start with streaming free trials offered by such providers as Kayo Sports and Foxtel Now. Both have AFL’s Fox Sports live coverage, which is a sure treat to fans and the best part is that your subscription is free for the first 14 days (Kayo) or 10 days (Foxtel Now). After that, your official monthly subscription begins if you decide to continue but you can still cancel anytime.

Kayo Sports and Foxtel Now are available on several compatible devices, including Android TV, select Smart TVs, and streaming boxes like Telstra TV and Apple TV. For streaming on the go, both services are available on Android and iOS mobile devices. Simply install the app from the Apple App Store or Google Play.
