Rugby League World Cup: Australia and NZ Pull Out

Both Australia and New Zealand have pulled out of the Rugby League World Cup that is set to get underway this spring in England.

Australian Rugby League Commission and their Kiwi counterparts, New Zealand Rugby League, have requested that the whole competition is moved to 2022 because of COVID concerns.

Official word is yet to come from Rugby League World Cup organisers, but the idea of two of the competition’s favourites pulling out, as they have here, could force them into a rethink in terms of dates.

The tournament was only confirmed last month, but the Kangaroos did not sign a participation agreement from the get go, raising concerns that player isolation when re-entering the country would impact staff and even the NRL pre-season.

Head of NZRL Greg Peters said: “The safety and wellbeing of our people is the main priority, and unfortunately, that cannot be guaranteed to our satisfaction.

“There are stark differences between how the pandemic is being managed in the UK compared to Australasia, and recent developments have highlighted how quickly things can change.

“The tournament organisers have moved heaven and earth to make this work, so it is not an easy decision, but the Covid-19 situation in the UK shows no sign of improving, and it’s simply too unsafe to send teams and staff over.”

ARLC’s Peter V’landys added: “Not participating in this year’s World Cup is not a decision the commission has taken lightly, but we must put the best interests of our players and officials first. Protecting them is our absolute priority.”

“In the current environment, the risks to the safety, health and wellbeing of the players and officials travelling from Australia to participate in the tournament this year are insurmountable.”

“We have again requested the IRL and Rugby League World Cup consider postponing the event until 2022 to enable all players to participate.”

Watch State Of Origin Game 3

The third and final State Of Origin game is set to get underway this evening. If New South Wales win, it will be the first time they have won three in a row during a series since the year 2000. Find out how to watch it here.

Blues v Maroons Game III

It would be a very sweet win tonight for the Blues if they take out game three of State Of Origin. They already clinched the 2021 series 2-0 last time out in Brisbane, but a win tonight would mean they would become the first NSW team to win all three games in Queensland!

This will be a stat the Maroons will be desperate to avoid on the Gold Coast when the game gets underway this evening. After a spanking in Townsville (6-50) and a scoreless outing in Brisbane (0-26), they will be keen to show their home support that they still have a bit of fight left in them. It’s all set up perfectly!

State Of Origin Game 3 Result

Queensland Maroons 28 – 18 New South Wales Blues

What time does State Of Origin Game 3 start?

The game started at 8.30pm (AEST) at the Robina Stadium on the Gold Coast and aired live on Nine.

Canterbury Bankstown Bulldogs- Free to Air TV and Live Stream Guide

Canterbury Bankstown Bulldogs History and 2021 Preview

The Bulldogs are as gritty and tenacious as the pug they are named after. Last season, when they finished second from the bottom, it was seen as an aberration. Their competitors know the team to be fiercely determined. The new season will provide the Bulldogs with another opportunity to showcase their toughness.

There is already hope for 2021 with the signing of exciting talent, Paul Alamoti. The club have also added some experience and steel in the form of Kyle Flanagan and Joel Hetherington. The mix of the talent and hard work should make the Bulldogs a competitive outfit.

Coach Trent Barrett has a lot of potential to work with. If he can tap into the hunger and drive of his players, the club will make a much higher ranking than last season.

Ideally, the Broncos want to finish as close to the top four as possible. Making the Grand Finals may be a bit out of reach this season.

Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles- Free to Air TV and Live Stream Guide

Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles History and 2021 Preview

The Sea Eagles are the perfect definition of a steady, mid-table team. Their strengths are consistency and stability. Once in a while, they will put together a run that will lead to a premiership; like the one in 2011.

For this season, the Manly team is looking to build on the solid finish of last season. It was nothing spectacular, but they know there can be no complaints regarding attitude and hard work.

Coach Des Hasler will look to apply what worked well, and try to change what didn’t. He knows his core group of players and will hope to extract the maximum potential out of them.

On the team front, captain Cherry-Evans will be the driving force for the blue-collar team. The signing of Karl Lawton should add some spice and competition to the squad. With all the stability, a mid-table finish looks likely for the Sea Eagles in 2021.

Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks- Free to Air TV and Live Stream Guide

Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks History and 2021 Preview

The Sharks have been a remarkable story of the NRL. Having finished with the wooden spoon in 2014, they rebounded with their first premiership win in 2016. The last few seasons have seen the club making steady progress.

Young coach John Morris will look to bring out the best from his team. A particular focus will be the defence where they have been prone to lapses in concentration during games.

One area the coach will not have to worry about too much is the attack, where Will Kennedy and Matt Moylan are a real threat in the wide areas. Toby Rudolf and Aaron Woods are also very strong in the centre.

The Sharks will realistically look to make the final rounds. Any win from there on will be considered a good season.
