The Newsroom actress Emily Mortimer makes her directorial debut in the three-part miniseries, The Pursuit of Love, which she also wrote. It follows two women as they navigate life looking for love, marriage, and friendship, and making sense of their choices in interwar England.
Linda, played by Lily James (Rebecca, Cinderella, Baby Driver), is all about following her heart, which often results in wild and outrageous adventures. Meanwhile, her cousin and best friend Fanny, played by Emily Beecham (Little Joe, Cruella), is ready to settle for something more steady and less unpredictable. Their friendship is put to the test as they follow opposing pursuits and priorities.
The Pursuit of Love also highlights a country with increasing social and political divisions, which further underscores the characters’ differing choices. All this only raises questions about freedom, love, sex, and the mystery of the human heart – questions that remain relevant up to this day.
