True Crime Documentary I’ll Be Gone in the Dark Returns For One-Hour Special

True crime documentary I’ll Be Gone in the Dark returns this June for a special episode. Based on the best-selling book of the same name, it follows writer Michelle McNamara’s investigation of the Golden State Killer who terrorized California in the 1970s and 1980s.

McNamara’s relentless quest to find justice on behalf of the victims helped keep the case alive all these years. But before she could witness the impact of her impassioned search for truth, she passed away in 2016. Four years later, former police officer Joseph James DeAngelo received a life imprisonment sentence for his horrendous crimes.

In the new I’ll Be Gone in the Dark episode, another case is uncovered – the rape and murder of Kathy Lombardo in 1984 in Oak Park, Illinois. This one-hour special delves into the case using the late McNamara’s own research and voice recordings, as well as present-day interviews with residents of Oak Park.
